BAND
Dear Ryan Band Member:

We are doing a very good job at rehearsals so far. Some of us are better than others at reading the music, but I am impressed how everyone is trying hard and getting a little better each time.

BUT ... you must practice at home, too. Please take some time each day (just 10-15 minutes) to play your instrument.

HOW DO I PRACTICE?
Any practicing is good, but here's a good map of a 15-minute practice:
  • Practice tonguing your notes or fingering or good breathing - 2 minutes
  • Play a few 5-note scales - 1 minute
  • Play your next sticker song a few times - 3 minutes
    • If one part is really hard, play JUST THAT PART a bunch of times - 3 minutes
  • Repeat with the sticker song after that
If you do that every day as part of your homework, you'll have your green ribbon in no time. And the Band will sound amazing!

The more you practice, the better you get. The better you get, the more the Band can play. And the more the Band can play, the more fun will have.

PARENTS - Please give your child a chance to practice. They may be loud and squawky now, but the more they practice, the better they'll sound. Those squawks and squeaks will go away soon - I promise.

Dear Ryan Wind Ensemble Member:

Nice work this week on African Festival. We've now read through the entire piece. There is no school next Tuesday, so spend some time on your day off practicing Lava Field and our new piece, Sailor's Holiday. We'll focus on those two pieces at our next rehearsal, on November 13.

If you weren't at rehearsal this week, stop by the Band Room on Wednesday or Thursday to get a copy of Sailor's Holiday.
