SCHEDULE AND EVENTS FOR WEEK ENDING DECEMBER 14

BAND
Dear Ryan Band Member:

All of our pieces are starting to come together. Make sure you keep working on all three, as well as your next sticker songs!

Chamber Songs
What's a chamber song? It's a song you play either by yourself or with one or more friends.

Can you do one for our January concert? Yes!
Do you have to do one? No. This is completely optional.

What do I have to do?
  1. Pick a song
  2. Ask some friends (or not)
  3. Practice the song together
  4. Audition the song for me. You or your group will have to play the song for me before the concert. The audition deadline is January 17.
Tips:
  • The harder the song is, the more impressive it will be. (So, no, you can't play Hot Cross Buns.)
  • If you're playing with a group, make sure you figure out a time to rehearse together. (And practice the song on your own first.)

BAND
Dear Ryan Band Member:

We are doing a very good job at rehearsals so far. Some of us are better than others at reading the music, but I am impressed how everyone is trying hard and getting a little better each time.

BUT ... you must practice at home, too. Please take some time each day (just 10-15 minutes) to play your instrument.

HOW DO I PRACTICE?
Any practicing is good, but here's a good map of a 15-minute practice:
  • Practice tonguing your notes or fingering or good breathing - 2 minutes
  • Play a few 5-note scales - 1 minute
  • Play your next sticker song a few times - 3 minutes
    • If one part is really hard, play JUST THAT PART a bunch of times - 3 minutes
  • Repeat with the sticker song after that
If you do that every day as part of your homework, you'll have your green ribbon in no time. And the Band will sound amazing!

The more you practice, the better you get. The better you get, the more the Band can play. And the more the Band can play, the more fun will have.

PARENTS - Please give your child a chance to practice. They may be loud and squawky now, but the more they practice, the better they'll sound. Those squawks and squeaks will go away soon - I promise.

Well, our first rehearsal is in the books. Everyone did a great job.

We had a lot more people at the Thursday rehearsal than on Wednesday. It would be great if a few people could switch from Thursday to Wednesday. (If you can't, don't worry about it - but if you can, it will help balance out the groups.)

What's your homework for this week? Practice two sticker songs.

SCHEDULE AND EVENTS FOR WEEK ENDING MAY 11

    Messages from Principal McInnes:

Cell Phone and Personal Device Rules

A reminder, as clearly stated in the Student Handbook, cell phones and other electronic devices are not permitted in school without consent from the principal. A note from parent/guardian must be on file at the school before permission is granted. With permission, students are allowed to bring their cell phones to school, but they must remain turned off and in their backpack.
These same rules extend to the buses- there is NO cell phone use on the bus. Thank you for your cooperation.

    Adjustment to School Calendar

As stated in an email from Superintendent Malone, Tewksbury Schools has adjusted this year's school calendar.
Friday, May 25th, previously an early release day, will now be a full day.
As a result, the last day of school is now Friday, June 22nd, and it is an early release at 11:10.
