Dear Ryan School Families, The fundraising information will be going home this week- please look for it. It is due on Tuesday, October 11th. We will be selling pies/cookie and tumblers.
We have found that a large number of students still have past due library books that weren't returned at the end of last year. We will be sending home past due notices this week and are asking parents & guardians to look around home to see if you can find the book(s). In the event you cannot locate the book(s) we are asking that you either send in a check, made out to the John F Ryan School, so we can purchase a replacement book(s) or you replace the book yourself using Barnes and Noble, Smile Amazon or your internet site of choice.  If you have any questions please contact the library at mailto:ryanschoollibrary@gmail.com. PIE/ COOKIE/ TUMBLER- FALL FUNDRAISER
Notices will be going home by the end of the week (they were put in all mailboxes except for 6C and 5D today- hopefully those 2 teams the notices will be going outtomorrow). Forms for these fundraiser are due on Tuesday, October 11th (send to school with your student). Please do not include sales tax. If you purchase items they must be picked up on November 17th from 3:30pm-7pm at the Ryan School Cafeteria. If you would rather not participate in either fundraiser but would like to make a donation to support the PAC this year- I have attached the form. RECYLE THAT
Donate your unwanted books and clothing now in our purple and yellow bin at school! The bin will accept books, DVDs, used clothing in any condition, linens and clothing accessories. Good condition items are repurposed and resold, lesser condition items are turned into industrial rags and filling material. Please no encyclopedias or college text books. Lets earn money for our school and keep these items out of landfills!

The Ryan School participates in an ink recycling  program. Bring in your used ink jets, laser toner cartridges, and used cell  phones ( in a zippered bag) and the Ryan will recycle them. Proceeds will fund art and enrichment programming at our school! Save the earth and help  the school!

TOWN NEWS

TEWKSBURY HABITAT BUILD (THB)
Tewksbury Habitat Build (THB) will soon begin demolition and rehab of a recently acquired home located at 1057 South Street. THB’s small group of local volunteers will be managing the project from start to finish. These volunteers will work with local contractors, builders and tradesman to help with all facets of the rehab process.  THB is looking for dedicated volunteers to help with this project; anyone interested in becoming a part of a worthwhile and rewarding experience, while helping to provide an affordable home for a worthy Tewksbury family is encouraged to attend the informational meeting at Tewksbury Town Hall onFriday, September 30 at 7:00 PM.  More information can be attained by visiting the organization on the web at TewksburyHabitatBuild.org or e-mailing info@tewksburyhabitatbuild.org.

RYAN SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING TEAM

All Ryan School students are eligible to participate in the program. The Cross Country team will practice each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-4:00 p.m. at the Ryan School starting September 20th. Parents are responsible for transporting their child home from practice. The school will provide transportation to the meets, which are held on Thursdays, leaving from the Ryan School to the Livingston Fields via school bus. Parents will be responsible for transporting their child home from the meets at Livingston. The first meet  is at  Livingston  Field against  Tyngsboro  on September  22. The  remainder  of the meet dates have not vet been determined; as soon as they are, we will pass them along to you and your child. The cost for participating in this activity is  $30.

If you are interested in the Ryan School XC Team, please return the following to the office:

-- One paragraph essay explaining why  being a runner and teammate  is  important

Dear Ryan School Families, I hope that everyone had a good weekend. The PAC will be meeting tonight at 6:30pm in the Ryan School Library (2nd Floor)- it would be great to see some new faces. We will be discussing the fall fundraiser.

Specialist teachers will be available from 6:00-6:30 PM in their classrooms (which will be posted in the main lobby), then a brief presentation in the cafeteria from 6:30-7:00 PM by Mr. Hart and Mrs. McInnes, and finally, classroom teachers/teams will have their presentations in their classrooms.

Dine-Out Night Coordinator- Organize monthly dine-out events.

TOWN NEWS
ZERO WASTE DAY
Tewksbury’s 8th Annual Zero Waste Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 24th, from 9am-1pm (rain or shine) at the Wynn Middle School parking lot.  ZWD is an opportunity for you to clean out your attics, basements, closets, and garages of gently used items and recyclables.  Fifteen local organizations will be on site with donation and recycling collection vehicles and more than 75 volunteers from will assist in unloading your vehicle and ensuring that your experience is quick and easy.  The organizations are collecting items like clothing, furniture, baby gear, bikes, off-rim tires, household goods, pet supplies, books, cell phones, , inkjet cartridges, batteries and – for a small fee – electronics, like computers and TVs.  Hazardous waste disposal is not available at ZWD.  Facebook users are asked to help promote the event by LIKING Zero Waste Day, Tewksbury thru this link.  Please see the attached flyer for more details or visit their website at www.zwdtewksbury.org where you can find links to local non-profit organizations and opportunities for local business and civic groups to support this great community event.  For more information, please contact coordinators Beth McFadyen (bmcfadyen@comcast.net) and Loretta Ryan (macnmad@comcast.net).

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

Our Open Houses are scheduled; Grade 5 is on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, and Grade 6 is on Thursday, September 15, 2016 both beginning at 6:00 PM. Our specialist teachers will be available from 6:00-6:30 PM in their classrooms (which will be posted in the main lobby), then a brief presentation in the cafeteria from 6:30-7:00 PM by Mrs McInnes and Mr. Hart , and finally, classroom teachers/teams will have their presentations in their classrooms. We hope to see you all there.

BAND 

On Thursday, September 8, fifth graders will have a chance to try an instrument and learn more about the Ryan School Band from Mr. Olevsky. I have attached more information and a sign-up form if your child would like to join band. Please feel free to contact Mr. Olevsky with any questions at tolevsky@tewksbury.k12.ma.us
