SCHEDULE AND EVENTS FOR WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 29

BAND
Dear Ryan Band Student/Parent:
Welcome to Ryan Band!

We will be starting up lessons this week. But before I get to that, there's one more important thing.
You Must Have A Lesson Book
Each Band student must have his/her own lesson book. We use Essential Elements for Band - Book 1 for your instrument.
  • The easiest way to get this is to go to the Leonards Music web site  and order a book through your account. If you order it by Monday, they will deliver it on Tuesday.
  • You can also pick up a copy at Tewksbury Music Center.
  • Or you can order through Amazon.
  • NOTE: Make sure you order the correct book:
    • Saxophone - order "Eb Alto Saxophone"
    • Percussion - order "Percussion, including Mallet Percussion"
    • Baritone - order "Baritone B.C." or "Baritone Bass Clef"
    • all other instruments will be obvious
Lesson Schedule
I have attached the lesson schedule for the next four weeks. Please print it out and bring it with you to your first lesson. You should also write your lesson times into your agenda.

Feel Free to Email Me
The first few weeks of Band can be a bit confusing. Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.
Email is much better than phone for reaching me, by the way. I am in 2 different schools, and 5 different classrooms, so it can be hard to find me by phone.

Welcome to Band!
Thanks
Mr. O

If you ordered your instrument from Leonards, they will deliver it tomorrow, and you will be able to pick it up on Wednesday. (Or, you may choose to leave it in the Band Room until your first lesson.)
I apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thanks

PAC
Dear Ryan School Families, I hope that everyone had a good weekend!!
FYI- The John F. Ryan School has been participating in Pinwheels for Peace since 2007.  Every year on or around September 21, the students take part in this International art and literacy project by "planting" pinwheels with messages of peace in the courtyard of our school.  This art installation project was started by two art teachers in 2005 as a way for students to express their feelings about what's going on in the world and their lives. For the past few years, our art teacher, Melissa Lane, has been coordinating this program along with Kathleen Anderson and Robin Reading.  Dr. Weidknecht has been providing the background "peaceful" music since we started participating in Pinwheels for Peace.

PAC MEETING
We will be meeting this Wednesday evening- September 13th in the Ryan School Library at 6:30pm. We would love to get some new involvement this year so please plan on joining us. This is a great way to get involved at the Ryan School!!! I am attaching the agenda.

RYAN LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS
Our library needs volunteers to help students find books, shelve books and keep the space neat for everyone. With over 600 students and classes visiting every day, you can imagine it will be busy! This year, 5th graders will visit every week and 6th graders will visit every other week. The class time is 48 minutes, during which they will need help finding their books and checking them out. We’d like to offer an enrichment activity to teach library skills if possible.

If you have time to volunteer, you will need a CORI, even if you have one in another building. A training overview will be offered as well.

A schedule is attached. Look for your student’s team number. The Ryan also has a new day of the week system. Contactryanschoollibrary@gmail .com with any questions and your availability. We thank you for helping at the Ryan!
